John S. Jones Elementary School is in the Etowah County School System. It is located in Rainbow City, Alabama. We are an Alabama Reading Initiative School and we received the National Blue Ribbon School Award in 2020 and 2001. Our school grade levels are kindergarten through fifth grade. We have 82 members on our faculty and staff with about 740 students. There are 5 special education teachers, 7 kindergarten, 7 first grade, 6 second grade, 6 third grade, 5 fourth grade, and 5 fifth grade teachers.

SUN Bucks
Alabama is preparing to issue SUN Bucks again. If your family has moved or your address has changed, please contact your child’s school to update their information in PowerSchool before March 2nd. The cards will be mailed to the address we have on file for your child.

If your address hasn’t changed, no action is needed.

2026-2027 School Year-First Class PreK Registration
First Class Pre-K programs are accepting online pre-registration applications for the 2026-2027 school year, beginning January 15, 2026 - March 6, 2026.

APPLICATIONS COMPLETED BEFORE JANUARY 15TH WILL BE DELETED FROM THE SYSTEM. Anyone who registers for the drawing after March 6th will be added to the waitlist and will not be included in the March 11th drawing. Parents are strongly encouraged to attend the training.
