Hello!  Welcome to my fourth grade class!  This is going to be an exciting, fun-filled year for all of us.  I am very thrilled to be starting a new school year.  We have a lot of learning ahead of us!
Our classroom will be a place where a positive learning environment will enable us to grow socially, emotionally, physically, and academically.  In the course of the school year an atmosphere will be provided that fosters problem solving skills, creativity, and communication skills.
Expectations are high but with guidance, support, and well-defined goals everyone will succeed in fourth grade.  When classroom expectations are high everyone will rise to meet them.  A very unique community develops where we become risk takers, as well as active participants in the learning process.
Communication between parents, students, and the teacher is essential to the development of a positive learning environment.  When all parties are informed of rules, classroom expectations, and routines, a sense of trust is developed.  This web-site has been developed to help meet this important goal.

F.Y.I.

Stay Tuned: Ask your child what he or she is studying, and look for the communication notebook each night.  I will always list important happenings in the communication notebook or send home a note. I initial the notebook daily and ask that you do the same each night.  Look for graded papers and a conduct report on Tuesday.  Remember to sign it and return the conduct form and agenda.  If your child is not progressing as expected, you will be contacted by note or phone call.

Ask Questions:  If you have concerns or wondering why something is happening, call, send a note or e-mail me.  I welcome all concerns, ideas and feedback!

Grades
Grades are given out each nine weeks. I will send home a progress report at the halfway mark of the nine week period. Weekly graded papers are sent home each week on Tuesdays.  You must sign the conduct paper and may keep the papers unless marked otherwise.

Conduct
Each week your child will start out with a 100 in conduct, points are taken off according to the offense, or as rules are broken.  Conduct grades are sent home each week on Tuesdays with graded papers.  I ask that you sign and return these slips.

Rules
It is a necessity that we learn to work, cooperate, study, play, and get along.  I realize that it is not possible for everyone to be best buddies, but I FULLY EXPECT that everyone will treat each other with respect, kindness, and courtesy.  It saddens me when people treat each other in a mean, hurtful, heartless manner.  We will try to avoid this in our classroom.

Birthdays
Special snacks can be brought for your child’s birthday.  Please send it in the mornings and we will have the snack at a special time of the day or in the lunchroom.  Please notify me a day in advance if possible.  If your child has a summer birthday and still wants to celebrate, then send it on another day.

Homework
Students should be able to do most assignments independently but do help if necessary.  Please help your child work toward good study habits by setting up a designated time and place for homework.  Research has shown that students who read outside of school perform better in school so encourage your child to read at least 15 minutes each night.

AR (Accelerated Reader)
Accelerated Reader is a reading program designed to encourage students to read each day. AR is a requirement in my classroom.  Students will read AR books and take the tests to earn points.  Books are worth a variety of points (.5 and up). Your child will have numerous opportunities to read and earn his/her points for the year.  Please encourage your child to use reading time wisely.  This is a great way to make sure your child is increasing his/her reading level.  I will encourage your child to read at his/her reading level and a little above. on.  I want reading to be a positive experience and hope that all students read at least 15 minutes a night.  Your child can check out 2 books at a time from the library and can get new books when needed.  Please encourage your child to bring home his or her books each night.
