Hi, my name is Myra Hand and I am the Assistant Principal at John S Jones Elementary School. I have been in the field of education for 30 years and I have taught at John S. Jones since 1996. I have taught First Grade, Third Grade, Sixth Grade Science, Special Education, Title I Reading and I was the ARI Reading Coach. I am certified “Highly Qualified in the areas of Reading, Elementary Education, Special Education, and Administration. I have a BS in Education from Jacksonville State University and a MA in Education and Administration from the University of Alabama. I achieved National Board Certification in November of 2009.
My husband is Dr. Harris Hand and he is a United Methodist Minister. We have three children, Rachael Waldhour, Leslie Hand, and Kevin Hand.
I believe that a teacher must be a lifelong learner. There is always something to be learned through implementation of new teaching skills and strategies. We also learn from parents, community, colleagues, and especially from the children that we teach each day.
